3D Media For Creatives:
An Open-Access Living Library

TIMELINE: 3 months
GROUP PROJECT: Will Nickley, Erika Strazinsky, and I
OBJECTIVE: Develop an open-access online library of video-based tutorials co-curated and co-created by design faculty and design students. The initial focus of the library's content was on the use of 3D design media in industrial design project contexts.
TOOLS USED: Fusion360, Gravity Sketch, Audio Equipment & Premier Pro

Funded by: The Affordable Learning Exchange (ALX)
At the start of the project, the team noticed that most 3D modeling content currently out on the internet is very technical and software-specific. Our goal then was to create new content that used plain language, that's not software specific and was made for any creative person. My role in the team was to research and learn about the existing content on 3D modeling strategies, test and execute some of those strategies, and record them to create engaging multimedia learning modules.

Here are the five videos and the resource list we created over the summer:
Introduction:
This video was created to introduce the library's content and the voices/hands behind the project.
3D Modeling Feature: Extrude
This video introduces "extrusion" by defining the term, showing what it is, and how extrusions can be used to "bring objects to life."
3D Modeling Feature: Loft
This video introduces the "loft" by showing what a loft is, how lofts can be used to "bring objects to life," and the other types of lofts that exist.
3D Modeling Feature: Revolve
This video introduces "revolves" by defining the term, showing what it is and how revolves can be used to "bring objects to life."
Plan & Combine: Extrude, Loft, Revolve to Build a Chair
This video shows how someone could plan out how to model an object (for instance, a chair) and then how the object could be modeled in a 3D modeling software.
Living Resource List
This list is an extra resource for users to find the type and topic of content that best suits their 3D media needs.

Publication:
At the end of the summer, the Department of Design at OSU published an article about the 3D Media Library and Erika's and my experience as students working on the project.
